Science Programme
Euroscience Open Forum 2012
The heart of the ESOF2012 meeting will be a rich, exciting Scientific Programme featuring top-quality science and leading researchers. The science programme will comprise interactive seminars, workshops, panel discussions and debates on such fundamental questions as:
- Will we starve?
- Will we cure disease?
- Will we drown or burn?
- Will we understand the human condition?
- Will we know everything?
- What will Human 2.0 look like?
- Will European science compete internationally?
These questions encapsulate the essence of the seven overarching themes for the meeting:
- The Future of Medicine & Health
- Reshaping the Frontiers of Knowledge
- Energy, Environment & Climate
- Engagement & Education
- Communicating Science
- Science & Culture
- Research Policy
The programme of 95 sessions, each of 90 minutes duration, was developed by the International Programme Committee from submissions to an open call to the scientific community for proposals. Over 400 high quality proposals, with speakers representing 40 different nationalities, were received. The International Programme Committee applied a rigorous peer review process to select the best proposals against criteria such as quality, originality, topicality, interdisciplinary approach and international perspective.
